I feel that Hume starts off talking about a literal thing, like a reporter and how he basically enlarges the picture on things happening in life. Then Hume goes to talking about God and heaven again. I think what he is saying is that people should focus more on reporting and learning about God than focusing more on the world we live in now.

I think what Hume is saying here is that the "reporter" or person giving the information about themself is of course going to be very passionate with what they say about their country, family or themself. They are always going to say something that sounds better than what is really true just like how people talk about how great their country they live in is when it may not be that great at all.
